Technical Issues
Internal Server Error
Two things cause an Internal Server Error. Either the server you used to connect to the internet is having problems or our server is having problems.
Although we continuously monitor our systems during normal business hours, problems can occur where our response may be delayed. We make every effort to ensure our system is running at peak performance and welcome emails through our Contact Us page when it is not working.
Page Not Found
What Happened?
We have redisigned our website to comply with the California State portal design. Although we have made every effort to keep pages in the same place, some pages have been moved or eliminated. If you have this page bookmarked, please delete it and use our search bar to find the new location.
E-mail Password
I received an Email with my User I.D. and Password, and I didn't request it. Is my information compromised?
Many times users forget their password for login features within the California State Personnel Board website. As a service, we have an automated feature which will email the password to the user when requested. The only requirement is a valid User I.D.. Unfortunately, some visitors to our site forget their User I.D. and begin to guess. If you receive an email from our system with your User I.D. and Password when you didn't request it, someone else has entered your User I.D. during our "Forgot Password" process. Rest assured your account information is safe as the only address this information was emailed to is yours.
The only suggestion we can offer short of discontinuing this service is to create a new account with a unique User I.D. that no one else can guess or accidentally enter.
Electronic Application Submission
Can I send my State Application from your system using email?
Our system was designed to store your State application information for retrival and printing. Many State departments and agencies do not accept applications through email services. The only solution we have available at this time is for you to print your application and send it through regular mail.

HP Deskjet/Laserjet Printers
We have tested this form with HP Laserjet and Deskjet printers, and found the following problems:
SPB will not research problems printing the Acrobat forms. However, if you encounter printing problems, and come up with a solution, be sure to let us know, so we can add the solution to this page.
Quote Marks
There are two types of quotation marks: straight and smart. Straight quotes are exactly as the name describes, straight. Smart quotes look as though they are curved. Mostly likely, you typed your "duties performed" text in word processing software and copied and pasted it into your online State Application.
Although that process is not recommended, please be sure the setting for quotation marks is set to straight. Please consult the help feature of your word processing software for further assistance on that topic. Once you change the settings, your online State Application should print.

the comma symbol will not print. For example, I typed in 2,500 and only 500 prints.

This field has been changed to accept non-alphanumeric characters.
ONLINE APP COULD NOT BE LOCATED
My online State Application account could not be located when I contacted SPB for my User I.D. and/or Password.
The information used to locate your online State Application in our system comes from the User Account Profile. This page appears after you have assigned yourself a User I.D. and Password. If you do not fill out this information, we will be unable to locate your account.

This message may appear just after choosing Step-2 on Print My Application.

PRINT MARGINS
My application does not fit on a page, the printing is off, or the margins are not right.
When printing from Adobe Acrobat, choose "Print As Image" and "Fit On Page" options. Your printer must also support a .25" margin. Try printing on another printer if you still have the described problems.

Netscape 6 does not appear to display the application for printing.
