Job Description and Duties

The Health, Education & Welfare (HEW) section is a fast-paced litigation unit that represents over 30 state agencies that administer a multitude of state health, education and welfare programs. The successful candidate will be one of two paralegals supporting 14 attorneys. Under the general supervision of a Supervising Deputy Attorney General, the paralegal will be expected to provide a high level of varied, complex and analytical paralegal assistance.

The successful candidate’s duties may include, but are not limited to, voluminous document management using electronic databases and complex litigation support software; gathering and analyzing facts and evidence; reviewing and organizing legal documents in new cases; contacting client agencies for factual information and evidentiary documents; interviewing witnesses; performing routine legal research and drafting basic court pleadings and declarations; propounding and responding to discovery; coordinating pretrial discovery requests; identifying and managing expert witnesses; summarizing deposition transcripts; organizing evidence for deposition and trial; providing litigation support to attorneys before and during trial, including the use of software in the courtroom; monitoring and managing case-related tasks on assigned cases; and various litigation support functions. Travel may be required.
