Job Description and Duties

The Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (BPELSG) is currently recruiting for a Permanent, Full-Time Senior Registrar (SR) in the Executive Unit to serve as the Board's Staff Civil Engineer. This position is located in Sacramento and the incumbent must be able to travel to Board meetings and educational and professional outreach events as needed. The incumbent must hold a current California Professional Civil Engineer license in good standing.

Working Conditions

Physical & Mental Tasks:  80% at a desk/computer workstation performing research and analysis; 15% traveling to meetings representing the Board; 5% light lifting of supplies.

Working Hours:  The incumbent is a Work Week Group E employee and is expected to work an average of 40 hours per week each year and may be required to work specified hours based on the business needs of the office.

Department Information

The Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (BPELSG) is a part of The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), one of eight entities under the State of California’s Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency.

The mission of the Board is to protect the health, safety, welfare, and property of the public by regulating the practices of professional engineering, land surveying, geology, and geophysics. The Board achieves its mission by determining the qualifications of individuals for licensure and by enforcing the laws and regulations under the Board’s jurisdiction.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a CA Licensure as a Professional Civil Engineer License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
Licensure as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California is required. The license must be current and in good standing.

Conflict of Interest (COI) - This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affaris' Conflict of Interest Regulations.  The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st and within 30 days of leaving office.

The SR must have excellent interpersonal skills and a clear understanding of the professional licensure process so that he or she can give clear and accurate information to applicants.  The SR must have excellent communication skills and be able to work well under pressure and rapidly-changing priorities.  The SR is required to have a working knowledge regarding trends in professional engineering and related regulatory functions.  The SR is required to use his or her resourcefulness as a professional to complete assignments.  The SR must be able to work cooperatively with other Board staff, applicants, licensees, and members of the public.
