Job Description and Duties

The Environmental Engineering Support Team has an opening for a highly motivated, engaging, forward thinking, and team-oriented person to take on a challenging and rewarding position to work in the Salton Sea Program.  The position will lead and manage the development and implementation of specific Salton Sea habitat restoration projects around the perimeter of the Salton Sea.  The Program is high profile and requires engagement with regional and local government agency representatives, Tribal Sovereign Nations, Non-governmental organizations, and local irrigation districts, geothermal groups, and public stakeholders, as well as legislative representatives.

Special Requirements

Candidates are required to have a current PE license in California and should possess very good writing and public speaking skills and the ability to support collaboration within and between agencies and staff.  Ability to travel in the Southern California region.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Candidate should be familiar with or have some experience in the regulatory environment related to California Environmental Quality Act, Federal Endangered Species Act/California Endangered Species Act, and State-specific environmental regulatory processes and policies.  Experience and training in program leadership/management skills, contract management and development, hydrologic/hydraulic engineering sciences and modeling, environmental or civil engineering experience with environmental restoration or associated structural facilities planning and design related to either freshwater aquatic or tidal or saline habitats, experience with restoration engineering techniques and planning/designing mitigation, and ability to work effectively with SAP and budget planning and tracking processes and tools.  Familiarity with land use regulations, real estate transactions, and planning of wetlands or aquatic restoration desirable.  The position will require expertise and strategic understanding of public engagement and working with landowners or lessees in developing/designing landscape scale restoration opportunities.  Ecological engineering science or habitat design and planning backgrounds are desirable.
