Job Description and Duties

The Department of Business Oversight is recruiting for three permanent, full-time Financial Institutions Examiners in the Banks Unit, Financial Institutions Division. Position to be located in the Los Angeles office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions in DBO within the next 180 days.

As assigned, reviews and evaluates the condition of licensees and/or affiliates.  Evaluates and determines compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Prepares examination reports that accurately communicate examination findings and the financial condition of the licensee. Writes comments, and edits and coordinates the report comments of other examiners.

Participates in formal, in-house, on-the-job and continuing education training programs.

Make recommendations for corrective actions needed to address findings of his or her reviews and evaluations.

Prepares, reviews and organizes examination work papers.

Assists with or conducted meetings with management of licensees and/or affiliates with regard to financial operational practices, general financial condition, and the scope and adequacy of financial and operating report systems as disclosed during examinations.  Processes applications and requests and makes recommendations.

Performs other related duties as required.

Working Conditions

Los Angeles Location: The Los Angeles office is located in the heart of the downtown financial district within walking distance to restaurants, transit, multiple parking options.

The duties require incumbent to visit client banking institutions, which requires the ability to travel.

CalHR has authorized the DBO to pay candidates hired in at the Financial Institutions Examiner level (Range A) a hire above minimum (H.A.M.) rate of $4930.00.

Department Information

The Department of Business Oversight (DBO) protects consumers and oversees financial service providers and products. The DBO supervises the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions and money transmitters. Additionally, the DBO licenses and regulates a variety of financial service providers, including securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers, payday lenders and other consumer finance lenders. Special Requirements

The positions requires incumbents pass a Background Investigation prior to being hired. The Background Investigation may include Criminal Background, Fingerprinting, and a review of any governmental records. In addition, other available sources of background information may be reviewed prior to appointment.

Interested applicants must include a copy of their complete transcripts showing completion of required coursework. Foreign Degrees must provide Degree Evaluation to verify U.S. equivalency.
