Job Description and Duties

FORESTRY AIDE (SEASONAL) – SIERRA DISTRICT / FOREST MANAGEMENT CREW

 

The reporting location for this position is the Sierra District Maintenance Shop in Sugar Pine Point State Park.  This position will work under the supervision of the Forester II.

 

The Forestry Aide works with the Forest Management Crew (FMC) is a sub-professional position involved in forestry and prescribed fire work on state parks. The position is experienced and proficient in FMC crewmember duties, and may assist with on the job training of entry level crewmembers. The position also provides assistance in forestry tasks such as tree marking, flagging, timber cruising, prescribed fire management, exotic plant control, hydrologic and soil disturbance monitoring, vegetation monitoring, and wildlife monitoring. This job includes the ability to perform a variety of manual labor work to restore and maintain natural resources, and requires working outdoors in inclement weather conditions and smoky conditions related to prescribed fire. The crew will occasionally spike camp at work sites throughout the district, and potentially throughout the state. This position works on a seasonal basis approximately April - November, depending on project need and funding. During field and prescribed fire seasons, the position may work weekends, nights and overtime hours. Hiring process requires fingerprinting and a background check.  

 

This position requires a valid California Class “C” Driver’s license. Please provide proof of eligibility with application.
