Job Description and Duties

The Office Technician (Typing) (OT (T)) provides support to various Business Services functions on a rotational basis throughout the unit, such as managing collection advice, revolving fund, parking, transit and payroll. The incumbent rotates duties that include answering incoming calls in our main reception area, providing information on State government agency services and programs and greeting and directing staff and visitors. The OT (T) must independently and in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources, prepare explanations for legal and administrative staff about benefits, leave administration, and payroll-time off policies.

The OT (T) is responsible to maintain office supplies stock in supply room and assist with ordering supplies and other CalCard related purchases. The OT (T) prepares documentation for purchases for the office, maintaining record of supplies and equipment and reviewing and approving accuracy of purchasing goods and services. The OT (T) also serves as a Fingerprint Live Scan operator on a rotational basis and verifies identification and completion of live scan forms. The OT (T) may be assigned other duties or assigned to provide back-up support to Office Technicians in other Legal Support Units as necessary.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
  • Due to the COVID-19 Emergency, if a valid typing certificate is unable to be obtained prior to being hired, we are temporarily allowing applicants to self-certify their typing skills on their Employment Application (STD 678). However, a valid typing certificate will still need to be obtained prior to the completion of probation.

  • A fingerprint check will be required.
