Job Description and Duties

The Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Human Resources, is looking for two enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working in a team environment to join the Department’s FMLA & Special Leaves Unit in the Office of Human Resources. FMLA Consultants provide leave consultations, assist employees in certifying their medical leave requests, and create and maintain the unit’s policies and procedures. A big part of this job is to continue educating managers and rank and file employees about leave entitlements, and manage medical leave cases by applying the appropriate laws, rules, and regulations. FMLA Consultants also assist employees while on and returning to work from a non-industrial disability leave.

Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I in the FMLA Unit, the FMLA Consultants act as a technical expert/liaison for all DOJ regarding FMLA, California Family Rights Act (CFRA), Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL) and the new temporary Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) program. The incumbents also work cooperatively with DOJ’s payroll specialists, peers analysts in other OHR programs and professional staff to meet the needs of program management and employees. These positions exercise good judgment, communicate effectively and portray a professional and positive demeanor at all times.
