Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS), the Limited Term Crime Analyst I (CA I) in the Armed and Prohibited Persons Section, conducts extensive background eligibility checks and criminal history analysis on persons who have acquired firearms and ammunitions, and determines if these persons have become prohibited from owning/possessing a firearm and ammunitions since their initial acquisition. The CA I may be required on occasion to work weekends, holidays and mandatory overtime or assist other BOF program units as organizational priorities arise. The CA I is responsible for the following:

  • Reviewing and analyzing firearm and ammunition eligibility information to determine in an individual still maintains the ability to own and posses a firearm and/or ammunition.
  • Ensuring work is processed in accordance with legislative mandates and timeframes.
  • Must be able to read and interpret local, state and federal laws.
  • Contacting other law enforcement entities to verify prohibition data, status of the prohibition, and period of time which the person will be prohibited
