Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I),

the incumbent performs at the expert level and will architect, install, test, modify, evaluate, and maintain complex computer systems. The incumbent is the ultimate technical authority and acts as the technical mentor to other administrators within the Unit. The incumbent will be responsible for 24 x 7 hour support to troubleshoot the more complex problems and issues. The incumbent will lead the most complex projects, which

includes troubleshooting, monitoring, enhancement, and maintenance of the computer systems that house the Department’s critical applications. The incumbent formulates strategic planning activities and acts as a consultant to other application staff, network staff, system administration staff, vendors, and agencies as the recognized technical specialist for the Department’s WINDOWS environment. The incumbent has the ability to

perform all aspects of implementing a clustered environment for supporting high-availability systems including the design, build, and liaison work that is associated in the coordination effort. The incumbent also participates as the top independent technical specialist in the analysis and planning of computer systems installations and

enhancements for in-house and external clients.

This position is located in the California Justice Information Services Division, Techonology Support Bureau, Strategic Transport & Technology Services Branch, Server & VMWare Administration Unit.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

1. Extensive and current experience in Active Directory.

2. Ability to analyze and evaluate complex software products for applicability and use for

services hosted by an organization.

3. Current experience administering Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or greater.

4. Current experience in basic scripting (i.e. PowerShell, bat, python, etc.).

5. Current experience provisioning physical & virtual servers, their associated hardware, and

Microsoft Windows Server 2016 or greater.

6. Current experience using VMWare technologies.

7. Current knowledge of emerging trends in relation to Enclosure technologies,

Hyperconverged Infrastructures and Windows Server technologies.

8. Develop and promulgate technical materials for use and/or education of section, bureau

and other data center personnel.

9. Develop and provide technical training to section, bureau, and other data center personnel.

10. Strong ability to advise, create, or participate in the design of new system architecture,

standards, and methods to support organizational needs.

11. Strong ability to analyze and identify system inefficiencies, and make recommendations for

changes to optimize system performance.

12. Strong ability to lead teams.

13. Strong ability to troubleshoot infrastructure hardware and software problems.

14. Strong ability to work independently.

15. Strong Knowledge of storage technologies.

16. Strong Knowledge of TCP/IP networks and the OSI model.

17. Strong technical writing skills.
