Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

During the COVID-19 crisis, Cal Fire will allow applicants to self-certify their typing skills in order to be considered for appointment to the classifications of an Office Assistant (Typing) or Office Technician (Typing). The selected candidate must self-certify by signing a provided agreement prior to their start date. Those individuals that are appointed during this crisis will need to TAKE and PASS an official typing test that meets CalHR requirements, within 6 months of appointment. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in action taken by the Office of Human Resources.

Unacceptable Certificates: Typing certificates issued by the Internet or Employment Agencies, and Typing Certificates issued for a typing test under five (5) minutes are not acceptable.

State departments will honor typing certificates issued within the last four years, and certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements, with a minimum of 40 WPM (words per minute). Click here to see the typing certificate guideline and to locate an acceptable establishment near you
