Job Description and Duties

Under the direct supervision of a Supervising Property Appraiser, the Assistant Property Auditor Appraiser in the Assessment Practices Survey Unit serves as a member of a survey team that reviews the assessment practices and procedures of County Assessors' offices for compliance with California property tax laws and rules. The Assistant Property Auditor Appraiser focuses on issues involving the taxation of personal property and fixtures of commercial or industrial firms. The Assistant Property Auditor Appraiser also conducts compliance or financial audits and appraisals to ensure statewide uniformity with statewide provisions. Overnight travel throughout the state up to 50 percent of the time by automobile and airplane; travel is typically Monday through Friday and span several continguous weeks.   

At this time, per the California Budget Act of 2020, all Board of Equalization salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave/Furlough Program.

Working Conditions

  • Standard office environment.
  • Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods of time.
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport records, files, equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. 
  • Audit and appraisal work may require visits and interior/exterior property inspections.
