Job Description and Duties

This position is located in the HQIU SAN JOSE FIELD OFFICE

Under the direction of the Supervising Investigator I, the Health Quality Investigation Unit (HQIU), the Division of Investigation (DOI), the incumbent works at the training, entry, and journey level conducting complex administrative, criminal, and civil investigations of physician and surgeons and certain allied healthcare professionals.  Examples of complex investigations include, but are not limited to:  criminal sexual exploitation of patients, cases involving drug violations, unlicensed practice of medicine, unlicensed corporate practice of medicine, insurance fraud, and allegations of practicing medicine while impaired (drug use, alcohol abuse, and mental disorders).

  • The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Psychological Evaluation clearance prior to being hired.

The incumbent will have access to the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) system. Title 11, Section 703(d) California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). Pursuant to this requirement, applicants for this position/examination will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice and be cleared before hiring.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Possession of a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certificate of Completion from  Basic Academy or Specialized Basic Investigators' Certificate of Completion.
  • Law enforcement experience
  • 4 year degree with a major in criminal justice, law enforcement, administration of justice, police science, criminology, or a comparable field of study
