Job Description and Duties

PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I  ($3,123 - $3,914) CHANNEL COAST DISTRICT /  SANTA BARBARA SECTOR /  BEACH UNITS

The reporting location for this position is the El Capitan State Beach maintenance shop in Goleta. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor, and will assist with the repair and maintenance of State Park facilities, roads and utility systems.

This includes skilled and semiskilled repair work such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, masonry and roofing projects.  Additional duties include facility housekeeping, equipment operations, grounds maintenance and administrative work as related to Park Maintenance Worker I duties.  The incumbent may act as a lead person for seasonal employees, and other agency maintenance crews.  Desirable qualifications include strong maintenance skills and the ability to get along with others. There are a variety of challenges and opportunities in this coastal region with terrific scenery and mild weather.

A valid California driver’s license is required.  Please provide proof of eligibility with application. This position will be subject to the Federal Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

The work schedule will be Friday through Tuesday, 7am to 3:30pm.

Working Conditions

• Willingness to work on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays and at odd or irregular hours.
• Work outdoors in various types of weather; work in unpleasant conditions (e.g., bad weather, around raw sewage,).
• Work in hazardous situations (e.g., around raw sewage, chemicals, used hypodermic needles).
• Work environment may be have moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• May involve some exposure to aggressive visitors.
• Work at elevated heights or near fast moving machinery or traffic.
• May occasionally work inside an office.
• Stand for long periods of time (up to 2 hours) to perform the duties associated with the job.
• Repetitive movement of heavy objects, such as building materials, other supplies, and natural debris removal.
• Will face uneven terrain in both uphill and downhill conditions to perform the duties associated with the job.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
• Duties performed require possession of a valid California driver’s license.
• Duties performed require random drug testing.
• Duties performed require participation in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
