Job Description and Duties

STATE PARK PEACE OFFICER (LIFEGUARD) ($3,789 - $6,047) – ANGELES DISTRICT / MALIBU SECTOR / LEO CARRILLO STATE PARK

***This is a Peace Officer Position. To be eligible, you must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Department of Human Resources AND either be currently eligible or eligible for reinstatement as a PC 830.2, California State Peace Officer. The reporting location for this position is at the Leo Carrillo State Park.  This position will work under the supervision of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor I (Lifeguard) of the Malibu Sector which includes Point Mugu State Park, Leo Carrillo State Park, Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach, Point Dume Natural Preserve, Point Dume State Beach, and Malibu Lagoon State Beach.

Duties include all aspects of law enforcement, aquatic safety, and park operations.  This is a non-supervisory position, but the position will act as a lead person providing leadership and guidance for both seasonal lifeguard and visitor services personnel.  This position offers many opportunities for the self-motivated individual to make a lasting impact.  There are a variety of park units and visitor serving activities in the Malibu Sector including; coastal and inland day use and camping facilities, historic buildings, preserves and backcountry hiking, biking and equestrian trails.  The Angeles District also has ample overtime opportunities through commercial filming and special event monitoring shifts.
