Job Description and Duties

The San Diego Legal Office is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Full-Time Limited Term (12 months) Legal Secretary.  Areas of practice may include tort defense, environmental, real property and/or contract law.  Incumbent will perform complex legal secretarial work including the preparation, processing, filing and service of a large variety of legal documents in multiple jurisdictions (municipal, superior, state, federal, appellate courts, and administrative agencies.)  Outstanding work attendance and punctuality is required.  Duties include maintaining calendar of response dates; maintaining case files; composing correspondence independently; formatting computer-generated documents; checking citations; making travel arrangements; and processing invoices and travel expense claims.  Incumbent must have a working knowledge of general office software to assist with the preparation of documents, filings, etc.  The Legal Division currently uses Word, Excel, and Outlook.  The incumbent will be trained to utilize a customized database.

This position is located in San Diego, California.

This position is a 12 month limited-term that may be extended to up to 24 months, and has the possibility of becoming permanent.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a Typing Certificate (45+ words per minute) Certificate. You will be required to provide a copy of your certificate prior to being hired.

Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications based on possession of an educational or license requirement must include a copy of your degree/transcripts and/or license along with your application (STD. 678) to be considered for this position.
