Department Information

Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility is currently canvassing for Office Technician, Typing.


Six vacancies and any other Limited Term vacancies that may occur during the life of the certification list.

Job Description and Duties

Under general supervision, the Office Technician (Typing) is at the advanced journey level which regularly performs a variety of general office work.  General office duties may include: typing, dictation and transcription; mail and document handling; filing and records management; document preparation and review; composition of correspondence; oral communications; statistical and other record keeping; and ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment.  Positions at this level require detailed and sensitive public contact and/or independent initiation of correspondence involving the knowledge and application of detailed regulations, policies and procedures (e.g. positions such as secretaries to major division chiefs and one-person field office assignments comprised of a wide variety of responsibilities).  Good judgment and the ability to communicate effectively is of primary importance.  In addition, positions may have further responsibility for functional guidance in training and assisting less experienced employees. Inmate worker supervision may be required.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired.   • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
