The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a recognized leader in public service and has existed for over 100 years.  The DMV is responsible for registering approximately 33 million vehicles in California and licensing 23 million drivers, collecting over $6.5 billion in annual revenue.  The DMV also maintains and oversees many other functions.  The DMV provides quality licensing and motor vehicle-related services in its field offices located throughout California and online at

Job Description and Duties

The San Diego Field Office is looking for an enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills for a public contact position. The duties of the position include: cashiering; providing assistance to the public regarding licensing and vehicle registration related matters; reviewing and processing forms and applications pertaining to the licensing of drivers, identification cards, and vehicle registration. Dependability and punctuality are essential.

Skills to meet job requirements at entry level are:

  • Written and verbal communication.
  • Interpersonal.
  • Learning Ability.
  • Mathematical and Cashiering.

One (1) Permanent Full Time position available. Transfer candidates are encouraged to apply.

All eligible candidates may apply; however, hiring preference will be given to eligible permanent intermittent MVRs based on seniority within the designated geographical/organizational area identified under Special Requirements.  Post and Bid applicants are required to submit a State application (STD 678) marked with Post and Bid and this job posting number.  A training and development assignment will be considered.  This position(s) may be subject to allocation approval by the Human Resources Branch.  Fingerprint/Criminal Record Clearance required before hire.  Salary Range shown is the minimum and maximum for a full time appointment.  Salaries for part-time and/or intermittent appointments may vary.  A training and development assignment will be considered.  SROA/Surplus candidates are encouraged to apply.
