Job Description and Duties

This position is the entry, first working, or journey level of professional surveying work at Caltrans.  Under the direction of a Transportation Surveyor Party Chief, the incumbent is assigned technical field responsibilities of land surveying.

Location: This position is in the Field Surveys Branch of the District 11 Division of Land Surveys (based at the Kearny Mesa Operations Center) and performs field surveys in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

After two years in this assignment, the incumbent may be rotated to another position within the same classification in the District 11 Land Surveys Division.

Special Requirements

Statement of Qualifications - Applicants must also submit a "Statement of Qualifications" for this position. The Statement of Qualifications must be limited to 1-2 pages and address the candidate's experience in the following areas:

1.  Knowledge of Land Surveying Techniques for both field and office, mathematical principles and concepts, knowledge of Basic Global Positioning Systems (GIS).
2.  Experience balancing multiple priorities and meeting strict deadlines.
3.  Experience working in a team environment including field experience working with public and state agencies.
4.  Experience using surveying software (including Microstation, Civil3D, Trimble, etc.).
5. 
Experience working with various field surveying systems including Global Positioning System (GPS), Real Time Kinematic (RTK), & Trimble equipment.
6.  Experience planning, scheduling, processing, and tracking data in a centralized database.
7.  Field experience, including boundary, Digital Terrain Model (DTM) surveys, and Construction surveys.
