Department Information

The Commission advises and assists the Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency and the Legislature in formulating and evaluating state policies and plans for California’s transportation programs, and has the ultimate responsibility for adopting statewide transportation policy.  The Commission is responsible for the programming and allocating of funds for the construction of highway, passenger rail, transit, and bike and pedestrian improvements throughout California. The Commission is an active participant in the initiation and development of State and Federal legislation that seeks to secure financial stability for the State’s transportation needs.

Job Description and Duties

The California Transportation Commission is looking for several dynamic, talented, and hard-working people to help lead the implementation of the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (Senate Bill 1). This bill provides the first significant, stable, and on-going increase in state transportation funding in more than two decades. Senate Bill 1 provides additional funding to and increases the Commission’s role in a number of existing programs, and creates several new programs for the Commission to oversee.

The Commission is looking for staff to lead or assist with the following: conducting workshops to solicit stakeholder input, drafting program guidelines, evaluating project applications, and monitoring project progress.

The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent numeracy skills, be comfortable presenting information and answering questions at public meetings, be able to successfully meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities, and be proficient using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Training and development assignments will be considered.
