Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Criminal Identification and Intelligence Supervisor (CIIS) in the California Reporting Information System/Dealer Record of Sale Processing Unit, the Criminal Identification Specialist (CIS) I will analyze criminal history and other firearms eligibility related records to determine the eligibility of persons to own or possess firearms and process the DMV mismatch and reject transactions. These functions involve inquiries into various database systems, the request and review of various files, and contact with other entities to verify any firearms prohibiting records. The CIS I should have a working knowledge of California statutory code sections, the criminal justice system, and the laws and regulations governing eligibility to purchase/possess firearms in California. The CIS I may be required on occasion to work mandatory overtime.

Additional Job Related Information
