Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager, this position leads the Regional oversight of the Fishery Restoration Grant Program, the coordination with the Watershed Restoration Grants Branch and supervises Environmental Scientists assigned to review, implement, and evaluate Fishery Restoration Grant Program projects within the Bay Delta Region. The incumbent provide coordination within the Bay Delta Region on fishery and watershed restoration and grant program issues and closely coordinates with other Department Regions and Branches.  The incumbent works with local entities planning for and carrying out projects; and overseeing the evaluation of project progresses, implementations and effectiveness outcomes across the Regional landscape.  The incumbent will ensure the Region is working in support of the statewide Fishery Restoration Grant Program team.

This position supervises environmental scientists assigned to implement the Fishery Restoration Grants Program in the Region. As such, this position will provide leadership to that team on watershed and restoration issues and related grant program activities.  Supervisory duties include the establishment of workload priorities; subordinate work plans; probationary reports and individual development plans; development of training programs; and oversight of grant management activities. As a supervisor, this positon prepares and submits monthly time activity reports and expense claims; initiates corrective actions as necessary; and conducts routine administrative activities.

Specified activities of the position requires leadership and writing skills; knowledge of California fish and wildlife resources, ecological principles and lake and stream processes; applicable permitting and environmental laws; and CDFW administrative procedures and policies. The incumbent will need to apply a high degree of personal initiative, and independent judgment. Public contacts made in the course of this work are highly sensitive and involve a wide variety of stakeholders.

Working Conditions

Ability to complete office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking to other locations; use a computer keyboard for several hours each day; attend meetings and conduct conference calls; conduct site field investigation activities that requiring travel of up to five or more hours each way, and involve walking and hiking in rough and remote conditions over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain. Travel may occasionally include early mornings and over-nights. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and equipment and be prepared to travel using a State vehicle.
