Job Description and Duties

The Information Technology Specialist I (ITS) works under supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor II. The Information Technology Specialist I is responsible for handling Salesforce development projects, maintaining existing Salesforce systems, and performing data migration from legacy systems to Salesforce.

Functional Areas of Responsibility:

Software Development:
Gather, document, and analyze technical requirements and specifications using best practices/methodologies to develop detailed software designs for Salesforce applications. Program, document, test, implement and maintain software in accordance with requirements. Develop, update and implement standards, procedures, and controls to ensure proper installation, configuration, maintenance, security, reliability and availability of systems/databases.

Data Administration:
Manage data functions, including: define, extract, transform, load, sync and archive data. Discuss and resolve data and transmission related issues with business users.

Quality Assurance:
Work to minimize defects in IT products while delivering quality solutions and services.

Security compliance:
Ensure compliance with all security and privacy laws, regulations, rules and standards specific to and governing the administration of their programs.

Analyze, design, code, configure, implement and debug Salesforce.com applications and third-party applications that integrate with Salesforce.com. Develop and maintain software documentation. Develop, update and implement standards, procedures, and controls to ensure proper installation, configuration, maintenance, security, reliability and availability of systems/databases. Develop plans to execute IT systems relating to design, coding, testing, defect management, system integration, implementation, and documentation of software components by outlining tasks, and developing timelines and schedules. Perform software product deployment and release management activities. Act as technical advisor to other information technology personnel in solving system problems and achieving the best use of Salesforce.com functionality and software resources.

Provide maintenance support of Salesforce.com applications and resolve reported defects and change requests. Troubleshoot, track, and conduct root cause analysis of system/database/operational issues utilizing standard procedures until resolved or escalated. Analyze business impact and exposure, based on emerging security threats, vulnerabilities and risks to recommend IT solutions. Work with requestor to ensure proper handling of requests and prompt customer service. Test changes in sandbox before deploying changes to production. Manage and test Salesforce.com upgrades and maintain data backups. Create and maintain document templates. Generate customized reports.

Conduct data cleansing activities for the data within Salesforce.com. This involves deduplication, merging of records, and cleansing of data. Define, configure, and program rules and jobs to clean the data. Identify processes to handle exceptions. Analyze data to identify trends or relationships among variable. During system migration, provide extracts of data from FileMaker and upload to Salesforce.com. Generate Reports and Dashboards.

Participate in self-study to continually improve Salesforce.com development and administration knowledge, skills, and abilities. Research new functionality and apply knowledge in the support and administration of the applications.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Must be regularly available and willing to work the hours the Department determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Desirable qualifications:
Desirable Qualifications includes but not limited to Web Technologies such as HTML and JavaScript; developer tools, such as Eclipse; Salesforce Programming Languages (APEX, SOQL, VisualForce); and knowledge of other programing languages. Work collaboratively with peers and management. Be comfortable communicating both verbally and by e-mail.

Department Information

This is a limited term position for twelve (12) months. The assignment may be extended an additional twelve (12) months, but will not exceed twenty-four (24) months. After the (24) months, this position may become permanent.

The position is located at the Oakland - OIS Unit.
