Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Hospital General Services Administrator I, the Custodian Supervisor III manages and directs the supervisors of the Housekeeping Department. The department is seeking knowledgeable, self-starters to supervise, plan and organize work involved in the care, cleaning and maintenance of the hospital.  Incumbent will assign work, give instruction and ensure that all Housekeeping personnel are trained on all aspects of Housekeeping practices, care and use of equipment, and the proper use of Housekeeping policies and procedures. Evaluate staff performance and takes or recommends appropriate action and maintains housekeeping practices and standards. Evaluate Housekeeping equipment. Make requests for new or replacement Housekeeping equipment.  Evaluate existing equipment and future needs.  Inspect equipment for safety and operational functioning.  Notify the Property Department to survey off old equipment every six months. Perform monthly inspections of various areas throughout the hospital to ensure acceptable standards of cleanliness are met.  Provide feedback to Housekeeping Supervisor II’s of their findings and monitor for corrections. Evaluate cleaning materials, supplies, and make recommendations for procurement of supplies. Participate in weekly EOC (Environment of Care) inspections, done with Health and Safety Office and other various departments.

Good attendance and strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Applicant must have managerial experience and have computer knowledge is desired. Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with all levels of staff is a must.

Department Information

The Department of State Hospitals, Metropolitan State Hospital is accepting applications for Custodian Supervisor III, permanent/fulltime. 


Metropolitan State Hospital is located in the suburban residential community of the City of Norwalk, 15 minutes east of Los Angeles. To the south is Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and the marinas and beaches of Huntington, Newport and Laguna. To the west are Palos Verdes and Marina Del Rey.
