Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Senior Assistant Attorney General and a Supervising Deputy Attorney General, the Associate Governmental Program Analyst independently performs complex technical and analytical staff services and legal work. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and effectively under strict time constraints with all levels of management and staff and the general public. The incumbent provides program management and evaluation involving fiscal, organizational, and staffing matters and policy compliance. Incumbent possesses exceptional analytical ability and effective communication skills (written and verbal). Incumbent performs fact and legal research, as well as proofreading and citation-checking, and is familiar with Bluebook and California Style Manual citation requirements. Incumbent has knowledge of the constitutional and statutory laws pertaining to the Attorney General’s role in ballot initiatives, referenda, and state election and ballot procedures. Incumbent researches, analyzes, and summarizes case files and records for supervising attorneys and management. Incumbent prepares exhibits for legal filings and trial, and is knowledgeable of court procedures and filing requirements. Incumbent processes and administers the section’s expert witness and outside counsel contracts. Incumbent facilitates section’s intake and case assignment system, including researching and summarizing new cases or advice requests. Incumbent coordinates eDiscovery document management for cases (including search, review, and production), and provides general assistance in responding to discovery and Public Records Act requests. Incumbent backs up Initiative Coordinator and Public Records Act Coordinator, as needed.

  • This position is located in the Division of Civil Law, Government Law Section.

  • This is a 12-month limited term position, but may be extended to a maximum of 24 months and/or may become a permanent position based upon operational needs.
