Job Description and Duties

The CalSTRS Enterprise IT Governanace Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Information Technology Specialist I in the Enterprise Architecture Unit.

The Enterprise IT Governance Division manages and provides oversight to IT Administrative Support & Contract Management and Enterprise Architecture units within the Technology Services Branch.

The Enterprise Architecture Unit comprised of architects from different domains who are highly knowledgeable and motivated in researching, analyzing, planning, and providing and communicating IT recommendations to enable CalSTRS to successfully achieve its goals.

We are looking for an ideal candidate who is able to:

  • Apply knowledge of enterprise architecture fundamentals and frameworks.
  • Analyze and extract enterprise architecture data to create appropriate presentations for various stakeholders.
  • Manage and maintain EA artifacts and data within the EA repository tool.
  • Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures and culture).
  • Identify the financial impact of current and future technology roadmaps and decisions.
  • Understand and communicate how a technology solutions interacts, supports and integrates with other technologies and information systems.
  • Consult on technology implementations (projects or high impact work activities) to ensure they align with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture to accommodate immediate or future project needs.

Under the direction of the Enterprise Architecture Manager, the Enterprise Architect acts as the project leader on the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of CalSTRS architectures. The Enterprise Architect partners with business and IT teams to understand business needs and the current technology landscape in order to develop architectures where IT supports the achievement of business goals. The Enterprise Architect develops and evolves artifacts such as reference models, standards, processes, architectural assessments and roadmaps. The duties the Enterprise Architect performs require regular innovative problem-solving within broadly stated and non-specific guidelines.

Background Investigation

Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted. The BI consists of a Personal History Statement and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.

The position may be subject to the disclosure and disqualification requirements concerning economic conflict of interest in government work, pursuant to the CalSTRS Conflict of Interest Code and the Political Reform Act.
