Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the IT Infrastructure and Operations Supervisor, the Systems Software Specialist I, Technical (SSS I) acts as a lead for the maintenance, support, study, acquisition, design, build, test, and implementation of the California Conservation Corps’ (CCC) complex network infrastructure and virtual desktop hosting services.

The incumbent will have frequent contact with CCC managers, Center directors and CCC staff throughout the state, as well as regular contact with California Natural Resources Agency Data Center management and staff, and state and government departments and agencies concerning information technology related to the performance of this position. In addition, the incumbent will consult with private contractors and vendor representatives concerning the needs and development of IT systems.

Maintains the stability and integrity of the CCC’s data and wireless network services by performing in the capacity of an IT networking lead. Supports the planning, designing, implementing and managing of the CCC enterprise information systems, and complex network infrastructure, including Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN) and wireless networking across the organization. Supports the coordination and completion of complex networking projects, including scheduled and unscheduled off-hours network maintenance and upgrades, and performance and capacity planning. Supports installation, monitoring, reconfiguring and tuning network circuits, hardware, software, communication links and load balancers for performance improvements and future scalability. Supports CCC network operations to ensure that network devices are configured and maintained in accordance with appropriate standards, best practices, and regulatory compliance requirements. Utilizes and follows the change management process for network changes.

Acts as a lead in planning, designing, implementing, supporting, and managing CCC Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and streaming applications. Analyzes and resolves VDI problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provides end-user training where required. Initiates and facilitates contact with vendor support when necessary to complete tasks or resolve problems relating to the vendors’ products.
