The position is located in San Diego Legal DLSE. It is also being advertised in Los Angeles, Long Beach (JC-35907), Santa Ana (JC-35924), and San Jose (JC-49116).

Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel of the Division:

Defends the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) in the most difficult court actions and proceeding, and civil multi-claimant litigated cases, in both state and federal trial and appellate courts;

In the most difficult and complex cases brought by the DLSE, prepares pleadings, petitions, and briefs, and conducts litigation before the trial and appellate courts of California and the United States. These include public works, discrimination complaint, and civil multi-claimant litigated cases;

Assumes responsibility for the preparation and filing of Administrative rules;

May act as lead person over lower level legal staff;

Analyzes and evaluates proposed legislation affecting DLSE and makes recommendations to the State Labor Commissioner;

Corresponds and consults with the Attorney General's office on legal matters involving tort actions against DLSE or its agents;

Perform other work as assigned.
