Department Information

The Audits and Investigations, Medical Review Branch (MRB), performs medical and financial audits and federally mandated post service, post payment utilization reviews of non-institutional Medi-Cal providers, including laboratories and pharmacies.  The audits conducted by MRB provide a vehicle to investigate suspected violations of Medi-Cal laws and regulations, aggressively recover public funds spent inefficiently or illegally, and detect new fraud and abuse trends that impact the DHCS Medi-Cal Anti-Fraud program.

Working Conditions

Travel is required. Incumbent must be able to travel to provider sites and be flexible to travel on very short notice. Some overnight travel may be necessary to complete audits or attend meetings and other activities as directed by management. The travel may be local (relative to the assigned office) or distant, requiring commercial air travel followed by local ground transportation.

Special Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent must, at all times maintain possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the Medical Board of California or California Department of Consumer
